FRENCH NATIONAL OLYMPIC AND SPORTS COMMITTEE

On March 8, 2021, on the occasion of International Women's Day, a statue of Alice Milliat was inaugurated at the headquarters of the French National Olympic and Sports Committee (CNOSF) in Paris.

A 2.85m high statue, designed by students of the lacquer materials course at ENSAAMA “National School of Applied Arts and Crafts”.

This event was a highly symbolic tribute to a key figure in women's sport.

Alice Milliat not only worked for the recognition of female athletes at a time when they were largely excluded from major competitions, notably the Olympic Games, but she was also a pioneer in the fight for gender equality in sport.

This statue reminds everyone that Alice Milliat is a pioneer whose legacy is more alive than ever. Thanks to her tireless work, generations of female athletes have been able to compete on an equal footing with men, and this legacy finds its strongest expression today in the gender parity of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She continues to inspire athletes and equality activists, and her fight for justice and fairness still resonates in the world of sport and beyond.
