CHÂTEAU DE LUTTENBACH

Located near Munster, in the heart of the Luttenbach Valley, the castle entered the life of Pierre de Coubertin following his marriage to Marie Rothan on March 12, 1895.

Marie came from an influential family in the region, and it was through this union that Coubertin inherited the Rothan family estate, after the death of Jean-Georges-Gustave Rothan in 1879.

Luttenbach Castle thus became a place of memory and family attachment for the baron, a symbol of his ties by marriage with Alsace.

Heavily damaged during the First World War, it was never rebuilt, leaving behind picturesque ruins today.

These remains are visible within the municipal campsite “Les Amis de la Nature”, which preserves the site as a heritage space open to visitors, between nature, memory and Olympic history.
