MICHELET HIGH SCHOOL

In Vanves, the Lycée Michelet is an emblematic place at the crossroads of the history of education, sport and heritage.

Between 1883 and 1888, the institution distinguished itself by inaugurating the first school swimming pool in France, marking a major step forward in the place of sport in schools.

In May 1890, the Union Athlétique du Lycée Michelet (UALM) was founded, one of the first French school sports associations, affiliated with the USFSA, whose general secretary was Pierre de Coubertin.

As early as June 1890, she organised an inter-school race meeting, then in February 1891 won the first Parisian school football-rugby championship, a turning point in the structuring of school sport which Coubertin would accompany until the creation of the interclub championship of 1892, of which he would referee the first final.

Beyond this special link with the history of sport and Olympism, the Lycée Michelet is today a major site of national heritage.

During the European Heritage Days, the public can discover an exceptional architectural and historical ensemble retracing more than 300 years of history, from the Age of Enlightenment to the Resistance, via the Second Empire, the Paris Commune, the Third Republic and May 1968.

A vibrant place, where memory, knowledge and sporting spirit come together in continuity with the ideal of Pierre de Coubertin.
