Pierre de Coubertin's residence in Paris
It was at 20, rue Oudinot, in the heart of the 7th arrondissement of Paris, that Charles Pierre de Frédy, Baron de Coubertin, future founder of the modern Olympic Games, was born on January 1, 1863.
In this family mansion, not far from Les Invalides and the Champ de Mars, the young Coubertin grew up in a cultured environment, conducive to his first reflections on education and sport.
This place also remains the first headquarters of the International Olympic Committee, founded by Coubertin at the end of the 19th century.
He kept this residence until 1922, before settling permanently in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Today, a commemorative plaque affixed to the entrance of the building recalls the birth of the man who revived the Olympic ideal.
